FBA-BIP Follow Up: Plan TA

This session is specifically designed for FBA/BIP facilitators who have already been trained in FBA/BIP and are currently developing individualized plans for students. In this session we will use live student plans to dig deeper and gain a greater understanding of how to do Function Based Assessments so that the hypothesis statement is accurate and can guide the BIP development process, how to identify function-based strategies to help strengthen the BIPs, and how to continue to help our stakeholders engage in function-based thinking to make our plans as effective as possible. Please come to this session with a completed Competing Behavior Pathway and Behavior Intervention Plan completed on one student from your setting. Please make sure all identifying information is taken off of your document. These plans will be used to facilitate the learning process throughout the day.

Who Should Participate

This session is designed for specific personnel identified to facilitate the FBA-BIP development process, coaches, and problem-solving teams:

  • Potential FBA-BIP facilitators: (i.e. counselors, social workers, school psychologists, behavior specialists, special education personnel, community partners, etc.)

  • District/building based coaches specifically focused on supporting Tier 2 and/or Tier 3 interventions

  • Problem Solving Team members: individuals who will help in the development of behavior intervention plans. (Administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, one-on-one aides, etc.)

Participants can expect to leave being able to

  • Having strengthened their skills around facilitating the FBA process

  • Having strengthened their skills around facilitating the BIP process

  • Having ideas about how to help staff think in a more function-based way

Building Coaching Capacity for FBA-BIP Implementation

This 1 day session will provide a refresher on the concepts and systems necessary to utilize Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Planning (FBA-BIP) to support students with challenging behavior. The session will focus specifically on how to coach facilitators in your district and is intended to help build the capacity of your district to support the FBA-BIP process.

Who Should Participate:

This session is designed for specific personnel identified to facilitate the FBA-BIP development process, coaches, and problem-solving teams:

  • District/building based coaches specifically focused on supporting Tier 2 and/or Tier 3 interventions

Participants can expect to leave being able to:

  1. Identify specific steps necessary to build internal capacity/fluency/expertise so that all staff can understand their role within the function-based problem solving process

  2. Be able to coach others to be able to:

    • Identify when an FBA-BIP is necessary

    • Identify the essential systems needed for an effective FBA/BIP process

    • Identify the steps for conducting an effective FBA, including data to determine maintaining function of behavior

    • Identify the critical components of function-based BIPs

    • Develop evaluation plans that are efficient and effective

  3. Identify and coach around common roadblocks in FBA-BIP development, implementation, and evaluation
